My Go-To Airport Outfits to Travel in Style (and Comfort)
Traveling is one of my favorite things to do, but picking the perfect airport outfits for the journey can be a bit of a challenge. You want to be stylish enough to feel good about those inevitable travel selfies, but you also want to be comfy enough to actually enjoy the trip. It’s a balancing act of fashion and function, which, thankfully, isn’t as hard to achieve as it sounds.
When I first started traveling regularly, I’d often find myself either too dressed up to relax or too dressed down to feel put together once I arrived at my destination. Over time, though, I’ve figured out some go-to combinations that tick all the right boxes. These outfits keep me comfortable through hours of travel while still making me feel confident stepping off a plane or into a hotel lobby.
A Comfy Two-Piece Set
Two-piece sets have become my best friend when traveling. They’re the perfect solution to the dilemma of wanting to look put together without having to put in a ton of effort. These sets usually come in matching tops and bottoms that can easily be mixed and matched with other pieces in your wardrobe. I’ve found that opting for a knit set with a bit of stretch offers the comfort of pajamas while looking much more polished.
The beauty of two-piece airport outfits is in its versatility. On one of my recent trips, I wore a comfy knit set that kept me cozy on the plane and could easily transition to a casual dinner outfit. All I had to do was swap my sneakers for some ankle boots and throw on a statement necklace, and I was ready to go. When choosing a set, go for neutral tones or subtle patterns that are easy to mix and match with other items in your travel wardrobe. This way, you can create multiple outfits without overpacking.
Leggings and Long Layers
If there’s one item that I absolutely must pack for any trip, it’s a pair of high-quality leggings. Not just any leggings, though—I’m talking about those that have a little extra something, like faux leather or a structured knit that offers a bit more support. These leggings are fantastic for travel days because they’re stretchy enough for long periods of sitting but still chic enough for a quick coffee stop at the airport.
Pairing leggings with a long, cozy top is an easy way to look stylish and stay comfortable. Think oversized sweaters, tunic-length shirts, or even a long cardigan. I often layer with a lightweight scarf, which doubles as a blanket if the plane gets chilly. And for footwear, you can’t go wrong with a pair of slip-on sneakers or even some sleek loafers. They’re easy to slip off for airport security and comfortable for walking around terminals or exploring your destination once you arrive.
A Maxi Dress
Comfy shirt dresses are a staple in my travel wardrobe because they are effortlessly chic and incredibly comfortable. A well-chosen shirt dress can transition seamlessly from day to night, making it perfect for travel. Look for one made from breathable, wrinkle-resistant fabric that is a bit oversized—this makes it easy to move around and stay comfortable throughout your journey.
Pair it with some comfortable sandals for a relaxed look, or dress it up with a belt and ankle boots for a dinner-ready ensemble. The key is to choose a style that is flattering yet forgiving so you’re not fussing with your airport outfits when you should be enjoying your travels.

Chic Joggers and Cozy Tops
Joggers have come a long way from their athletic roots and are now a travel favorite for me. With the right styling, they can look just as polished as a pair of trousers while offering unparalleled comfort. Opt for joggers made from a soft, breathable fabric that doesn’t wrinkle easily—these will keep you looking fresh, no matter how long your journey is.
For a polished travel look, pair your joggers with a fitted top or a blouse with a relaxed fit. Adding a structured jacket, like a blazer or a lightweight trench, instantly elevates the outfit. When it comes to shoes, I like to wear something easy to slip on and off, like loafers or slip-on sneakers. This combination is perfect for looking stylish while remaining ready for anything, from a quick stroll around the airport to an impromptu sightseeing tour upon arrival.
