The beginning of 2020 marked the mass adoption of working from home. While freelancers, individual contractors, and startups were already at it for a long time, the corporate sector also had to experiment and switch gears. This fortunate (or unfortunate) experiment made millions of people begin working from home, bringing forth a unique social impact.

While working from the comfort of one’s home was the primary benefit, the same advantage paved the way for laziness, mental health concerns, and reduced social interaction. This resulted in a negative impact on physical health.

The work-from-home business structure worked well for many companies (resulting in a reduction in office costs and higher productivity). Every individual working in such a setting, however, had to come up with their own coping mechanisms to adjust to this new lifestyle. While many enjoyed it, some suffered and continue to adjust to this day.

We did our homework and would like to share a few lifestyle changes that proved to be excellent for folks who still prefer to work from home.

Design the Perfect Work Room

Get a Proper Office Table and Chair

You need to work in a proper environment to be productive. If your room has a gaming console or TV, for example, your family members will most likely occupy the space too to enjoy some form of entertainment. We wouldn’t be surprised if you’d be tempted to join them. While being able to take breaks whenever you’d like is one of the benefits of working from home, it can quickly turn into a curse as well. You may lose your focus, and before you know it, you won’t feel like working at all.

We’d suggest that you choose a room in your home and turn it into a proper office. Instead of breaking your back sitting on your bed, get a nice office chair. If you don’t have the liberty to set it up in a separate room, prepare a nice work desk in one corner of your room. Not only will this keep you motivated, but it will also keep your physical health from deteriorating over time.

Get the Right Gear

When we’re in an office, we’ve got IT support to help with any issues we run into. At home, it’s easy to fall prey to half-working gadgets, working without a mousepad or letting that faulty brightness of your laptop screen fatigue your mind. All this while you have no idea what’s going on, but you keep getting tired quicker than before and frequently lose your focus. Here are some tips on how to prevent such a scenario:

Work on Ambiance

Loved the RGB keyboard at your workplace? Invest in one for your home office if it helps you set the work mood.

Mouse Pad With Wrist Support

You are bound to end up with fatigued wrists and fingers if you work on a computer for too long. Consider investing in a mouse pad with wrist support to reduce the negative effects.

Make Sure Your Internet Connection Is Strong

It’s easy to get frustrated with your internet connection if it lags. Understandably, it’s expensive to get a new and better internet connection, but definitely worth it.

Sleep Timely and Wake Up Early

Early to bed and early to rise, makes a human healthy, wealthy, and wise. We’ve all heard it, and it’s high time we practice it.

Exercise Daily

Working from home can significantly reduce our activity levels, and that’s why it’s important to regularly go out for a jog or fit in a workout during your busy day.

Take a Trip

Another cool part of remote work is that it allows you to work from anywhere. So, if you’re making enough money, be smart, change your routine, and travel!

Change Your Routine: Consider a Co-Working Space

If all else fails and you’re still unable to get out of the rut, consider working in a co-working space. You’ll get to meet people from different backgrounds and fields, helping you socialize more. It’ll also compel you to stay on your feet.
